Abstract

The phase evolution in the $Al_20_3-Y20_3$ system has been studied for $Al_203$-15mol% Y203 metastable amorphous powders prepared by co-precipitation of nitrate precursor solution. The amorphous powders were hot pressed uniaxially at low temperatures (~6200C) with a moderate pressure of 750 MPa. The co-precipitated powder could be hot pressed to a relative density of around 98% while remaining amorphous in nature.
