Abstract

For the basic understanding of flow characteristics over a flat smooth plate, the experiment was carried out in the laboratory using wind tunnel. Readings of the boundary layer were taken at 15 locations over the flat plate (glass surface) with a free stream velocity (U) which varies from 13.4to 13.5 giving Reynolds number corresponding to laminar through turbulent flows. The height of the boundary layer ranges from 2mm to 29 mm .then the parameters like displacement thickness and momentum thickness were calculated from the velocity profile. The boundary layer growth over the glass plate was found out with the help of velocity profiles at different locations. The boundary layer growth gives a brief idea of fluid flow over a flat surface.
