Abstract

Cr- P clay was synthesized by the interlayer modification of the clay materials. The XRD study of indicated the expansion of the interlayer structure as a result of pillaring. The Cr-P material was used as an efficient catalyst for the synthesis of 1, 8-dioxo-octahydroxanthenes under microwave solvent free condition by condensation of aryl aldehyde and dimedone. The Cr-P material was found to give good yield and purity of the products for a variety of aromatic aldehydes.
