Abstract

An ion-exchange procedure with the selective retention of fluoride ions from aqueous solutions containing 0.1, 1, 5, 10, 20 mgL- F- using a new inorganic ion exchanger zirconium (IV) oxide-propanolamine ZrO-PA and has been reported. The same material has been used for removal of fluoride ions from potable water also. A column equilibrium studies, batch process and different analytical parameters such as concentration, pH and temperature for the quantitative recovery of F- ion using ZrO-PA exchanger were also investigated. The data were best fitted to knw the feasibility of the process in Freundlich Isotherm. The effect of some other anions which may be present with the analyte was also examined and found to have almost no effect. The column experiments showed a quantitative collection of fluoride at low concentration in water with more than 97% recovery.
