Abstract

In the present investigation, we demonstrated the nature of interaction between silver nanoparticles and E.Coli bacterial. Stable silver nanoparticles (NP) were prepared by green synthesis (Catharanthus plant extract) method and characterized by UV-Vis spectrophotometry, SEM and DLS (Dynamic Light Scattering) particle size analysis. The antimicrobial activity of silver nanoparticles was monitored against Escherichia coli (Gram negative bacteria). Nutrient broth solutions were used to culture the Escherichia coli and silver nanoparticles of different concentrations were added to the bacterial culture solution to monitor toxicity of NP and simultaneously to investigate cell-NP interaction. It was observed that Escherichia coli growth was inhibited at a NP concentration and 80μg/ml concentration NP was found to kill E.coli completely.
