Abstract

Textile mill present in Rajahmundry, AP, India is one of the industries which is polluting the nearby water bodies and lands as well as the whole environment. Phenol and Chromium are the two major pollutants present in the effluent besides many organic, inorganic and heavy metal contaminants. Because of the hazardous nature, toxicity and exposure, Cr(VI) and Phenol have been designated as priority pollutants. There are many physical and chemical treatment methods available for the removal of both phenol and chromium but all these methods have problems associated such as secondary effluent, hazardous and harmful end products, high energy consuming, non economic etc. These problems can be overcomed by the use of biological treatment methods which are simple as well as eco-friendly and economic processes where complete removal of the pollutants is possible.
