Abstract
A large number of accidents, related to the equipment safety, occur in various hospitals across the globe due to negligence of few health care-givers. The negligence may result in the generation of sparks due to faulty conditions which may quickly spread and result in major casualties. In most of these cases, an accident could be prevented if the fire may be detected in its early stage. In general, it is very difficult to monitor all the areas of the hospital over a long period of time. Hence, this study was designed to develop a low-cost device for continuous monitoring of temperature and water spill in the medical equipments. LM35 temperature sensor was used for temperature monitoring whereas the water spill detection unit was developed by using a 555-timing device. An early detection of the water spill and/or rise in the environmental temperature within the equipment may help in avoiding the outburst of fire on a large scale. The device was made to continuously monitor the equipment environment and give an alarm if there is any water spill or rise in temperature.
