Abstract

In a Fluidized Bed Reactor, which can be operated till a maximum of 500ºC, abatement of sulphur dioxide needs to be done. The bed material chosen is manganese ore. The main fluidizing gas is compressed air and the sulphur dioxide is fed as the secondary fluidizing fluid. The oxides of sulpure are prepared in the laboratory itself. Along with sulphur dioxide, oxides of nitrogen is also fed as the secondary gas for some of the experiments to check its effect on the abatement of oxides of nitrogen. Other than that temperature is also varied to see its effect. The residence time is another factor on which quality of fluidization depends hence it is also varied to check its effect on the abatement of sulphur dioxide. Finally the characterization of the bed material before and after fluidization is done and compared to confirm the reduction in the quantity of sulphur dioxide from what is initially fed to the Fluidized Bed Reactor.
