Abstract

Pure magnesium was subjected to cold rolling and annealing at 200oC for 30 min of soaking time. The annealed sample was then characterized by nanoindentation and electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) to estimate the orientation dependent hardness in pure magnesium. It was observed that the grains of basal orientations had higher hardness value in pure magnesium. An increased deviation from exact basal orientation had decreasing trend on hardness value. Correlation of orientation and mechanical properties (particularly hardness) was investigated in the present study.
