Abstract
Electric Transmission & Distribution Lines delivering power to end-user at their homes, offices and industries which pump life into the present day. It is essential to protect transmission lines for minimal interruption of supply and for good quality operation of power lines. This necessity ascended the engineers to found the Fault Detection & Location Techniques. Many fault detection methods use line data for detection of faults but these methods encounters problem with missing line data . To counter this problem, we are using fault detection process on the voltage and current measurements across fault line terminals due to change in varying loads these methods minimize the effects of parameters. This report presents Detection of fault and location in a compensated Transmission Lines. Series Compensation FACTS devices SSSC has used in this Transmission Lines. Wavelet based signal decomposition is using in this work for further extraction process. Discrete wavelet transformation followed by the wavelet entropy calculations are doing for the fault current signals of compensated transmission line. Algorithm based on wavelet entropy is used to detect the fault and identify the fault position in a transmission line with respect to a FACTS device placed at the midpoint of a transmission line. This thesis report presents the result of the algorithms tested in the MATLAB/SIMULINK.
