Abstract
OFDM is being extensively used in modern communication systems idue to its various ladvantages like high ispectral efficiency, resistance toi multi-path fading, ISI etc. On combining channel coding scheme with an OFDM system, high speed data transfer along with reliable transmission can be achieved. COFDM implements Forward Error Correction to provide redundancy to the transmission resulting in highly reliable transmission at high data rates. Channel coding when combined with frequency and time interleaving establishes a link among the ibits transmitted on different icarriers which helps in recovering the information transported by the faded carriers from the carriers that were well received. This thesis analyses the different components of a COFDM transceiver and is aimed at designing a COFDM transceiver using VHDL. COFDM transceiver uses scrambling, FEC, interleaving in conjunction with an OFDM system to successfully surmount the problems in wireless transmission.
