Abstract

The random load variation in complex power system affects the desired frequency and voltage. In order to obtain improved controller performances, the gains of the controller’s need to determined by employing optimal techniques.Controller design mainly depend on optimization techniques.Automatic Generation Control(AGC) consists of Automatic Load Frequency Control(ALFC), which maintain the frequency at its nominal value and Automatic Voltage Regulator(AVR) allows the voltage at permissible value.Frequency and voltage are relates to real power and reactive power so that these powers are also balanced.
Particle Swarm Optimization,Bacteria Foraging Optimization and Jaya Algorithm are three optimization techniques employed in this work to optimize parameters of the PI controller. These parameters are mainly affect the transient response of the model. Two area of thermal, two area having both thermal and hydro, three area of all thermal areas are investigated in MATLAB Simulation.Collectively the outputs of frequency deviation of each area and tie-line power deviations are studied.PI controller is used to satisfy the criteria of the thesis.By using the optimized values of PI controller using three techniques the frequency deviation of each area,tie-line power deviations and steady state error’s are reduced to zero.Dynamic factors like peak overshoot and settling time of outputs of all model are studied carefully.Jaya Algorithm
