Abstract

The main aim of this system is to design a ZigBee and GSM-based wireless data acquisition system for the agricultural area, which is based on low-power, low cost ZigBee and GSM wireless communication technology. It will also help to generate automatic irrigation system to irrigate farming field. The data is sensed by wireless sensor nodes and transfer to the farmers using ZigBee and GSM technology. From this work, we can monitor the agriculture area, and know about farming field and soil condition. From the value of soil moisture and pH sensor, farmers can know about where irrigation as well as fertilization are needed. With the help of all the sensors they will know about soil condition like temperature of soil, moisture of soil, pH of soil, how much light coming in farming area, humidity of soil, climate condition, and rain fall etc., From the value of soil moisture sensor if the moisture level is low in farming field then automatic irrigation system self starts and irrigate the crops which has positive impact on overall agricultural productivity. All the data acquired from multiple sensor is received, saved also displayed at the farmers house through Zigbee technology. Data can be received on mobile phone by using GSM technology from anywhere to know about condition of soil. The data is transmitted continuously to the base station using Zigbee and GSM technology. All the data is received, saved for records and also displayed on LCD, and a message is sent to the farmer on mobile through GSM network for controlling actions. It helps to initiate necessary steps to be taken for systematic and healthy farming in backward areas. The system is designed in simple way that an illiterate man can also operate it. The advantage of this system is flexible, low cost, reliable nodes, convenient installation and high capacity.
