Abstract
Wireless body area network (WBAN) deals with patient’s information which are more sensitive and important because of security and privacy associated with the data, unlike
conventional sensor networks . The medical sensors used in WBAN are resource-constrained nodes having less storage, battery capacity, and computation power. Hence, the medical
sensors are not capable of performing more complex algorithms to achieve the security requirements. Therefore, designing a light-weight authentication protocol for WBAN
which aims to guarantee maximum security in a resource-constrained environment is a challenging task. We propose a biometric-based anonymous user authentication scheme
for WBAN which preserves the patients’ privacy as well as achieves mutual authentication. In addition, we have given an informal cryptanalysis and formal verifications using BAN
logic, AVISPA, and ProVerif which ensure that the proposed scheme resists different well known attacks. Finally, we compare the performance of our scheme with different related
schemes by considering three parameters such as security features, computation cost, and communication overhead, showing that our proposed scheme is efficient.
