Abstract

The main goal of the present study is to validate the results of natural frequencyof Glass Aluminium Reinforced Epoxy (GLARE) cylindrical panel obtained through Ansys APDL with the experimental results. The resonant frequency is very important for every
structure since all structures are subjected to vibration hencethe designer must consider its resonant frequency in designing. In this study first the GLARE specimen is made using hand layup method and its properties like young’s modulus (both longitudinal and transverse),
poison’s ratio and shear modulus are evaluated using standard testing procedure on UTM. After evaluation of properties a model of actual size is designed in Ansys APDL and natural frequencies are found out. Experiments were carried out on the specimen to find its natural
frequencies using electro dynamic shaker and finally the results obtained from software and experiments are compared. The difference or error between these two may be due to fact that there may be fabrication defects like air gap, improper bonding. The experimental results were slightly lesser that that of Ansys due to fact that improper bonding increases flexibility and decreases stiffness so resultant natural frequency will be lower.
