Abstract
Development of smart structures integrated with sensors and actuators is required in sectors like structural health modelling and actuation systems. Present work deals with the design of multi-layered smart composite plate and its free vibration analysis studies. Finite element model is initially employed to obtain the plate element stiffness and mass matrices. The natural frequencies and mode shapes of the laminated smart composite plate are initially obtained for different plate sizes at different boundary conditions without considering delamination in first case and with different delamination sizes in second case. Delamination is modelled as a local discontinuity between the layers. The mesh sizes in the analysis have been varied from 2×2 to 12×12 and the thickness wise overall effective matrices are computed with a generalized Matlab code. The present two dimensional analysis models the uncertainties effectively. Results are compared with published data.
