Suitable BLOS models has not been developed so far for the heterogeneous traffic flow conditions in developing countries. In this regard, this study has taken an initiative to examine the riding quality of bicyclists while passing a signalized intersections. Road intersection is one of the most complex features of the transportation system. In this study, traffic and geometric data are collected from 35 signalized intersections located in Nagpur, Bhubaneswar, Tirupati cities of India. A perception survey is conducted and real-time response of participants with varying age, sex, educational qualification and driving experiences is accessed. About 10 responses from each movement at 35 intersections which includes 70 through movements, in two directions were collected through roadside interview survey. Participants were asked to give rating for each question on a six point rating scale if they would ride cycle in that movement. The overall average of these values gives the TBLOS in respective movement.
Using these scores as output variables, Pearson’s correlation analysis is carried out over all intersection attributes. Geometric, traffic, safety and built-environment were found to be important towards bicyclists’ satisfaction levels. In this study regression analysis is carried out to develop a suitable BLOS model.
