Abstract
Pedestrian walking is the major mode of transportation in many cities and also effective for short trips. In this study pedestrian flow data was collected from foot over bridges and stairways of Tatanagar and Kazipet railway stations. This data was analyzed for finding pedestrian characteristics like speed, flow and density. Fundamental diagrams were plotted using this data. Pedestrian level of service for foot over bridges and stairways was found using the collected data. Comparision of speeds of pedestrians on foot over bridges and stairways with single file experiment data is done in this study. In this study we found the level of service of stairways and foot over bridges in the study was good in terms of v/c ratio and average space per pedestrian. By comparing the pedestrian speeds we found that speeds of pedestrians on foot over bridges is much less than that of on stairways. And also that speed of pedestrians on stairways is not significantly different than the speed of pedestrians in single file experiment.
