Abstract

1.This report presents the erection engineering and construction push launch of the Steel truss on a rail track (Near Shakurpur station) and on heavy traffic road at (Rajouri garden metro station). The superstructure for this multi ‐ span 60 feet long and 11.1 M feet wide bridge consists of various steel plates with a composite cast in place concrete deck. Steel truss was launched after assembling, nut bolting and torqueing. Resulting in the launch truss bridge construction in viaduct with a total weight of launched steel exceeding 300 MT, the launch is also one the heaviest and longest. Essential equipment is presented while innovative components are described in detail. There are many safety related problems in steel truss erection, assembling and launching. Analysis requires on periodical basis. The study was carried out to detect the unsafe acts/condition in steel truss. It required a hazard identification and risk assessment procedure as it contains a large number of activities. It was done by considering the safe work procedure of steel truss. Existing control measures are already mentioned in safe work procedure. Additional control measures are also taken to reduce risk level as per requirements.

2.The present study has been carried for assessing the biosafety of potable water from Odisha, in terms of its physico-chemical properties and microbial analysis. Samples were collected from three locations OSAP pond, Sector-2 Basti ground water and Koel River, Sector-20 of Rourkela city. Samples were taken in 1.5 liter bottle by rinsing with distilled water and 2 % nitric acid. Physico-chemical properties such as temperature, pH, total dissolved solid (TDS), total suspended solids (TSS), biological oxigen demand (BOD), dissolved oxygen (DO) and content of Fe have been measured in environmental engineering laboratory of SAIL, Rourkela. The low BOD5 and high DO valuee in all samples showed good sanitary condition of the water. The total bacteria count showed similar bacterial counts in all three samples when they were grown on Nutrient Agar plates as well as liquid broth. Finally Hot boiling treatment showed much better result than UV treatment in killing of water borne microbes in all the three samples.
