Abstract

In this study, an attempt has been made to maintain the superconductivity of HTS cable using numerical simulation by considering different flow pattern of LN2, different cable configuration, varying sheath and vacuum insulation thickness under steady state condition. Cable configuration used in the present analysis consists of hollow former, conductor, dielectric, shields, cryostat and sheath. Flow conditions for liquid nitrogen used in cooling of HTS cable are considered as incompressible laminar flow. Numerical simulation of single phase 2D axisymmetric HTS cable is done by using ANSYS software. At first HTS cable is studied using standard cable configuration, after that different cases have been considered to see the temperature variation of the conductor. Result obtained by this analysis shows some significant dependence of temperature distribution of HTS conductor on flow pattern of LN2, different cable geometry, sheath thickness and vacuum insulation thickness variation.
