Abstract

LOPA is risk assessment method which is used in GGL to find out which area need more protection to avoid undesirable events. Whole process of GGL is described with its equipment. Because before doing risk assessment of a company the thorough knowledge of its process and equipment involved in it is necessary. Layer of protection analysis is done to ensure that there is sufficient independent layer of protection present against a detected risk. Here in LOPA process more focus is given to find out possible causes, there frequency in India as well as in US, consequence analysis of outcomes of possible causes. Hazard identification is done by using preliminary hazard analysis method. For consequence analysis PHAST DNV software is used. Hence the software is described here. Incident data are collected from petroleum and natural gas regulation board for Indian scenario from which frequency of incident occurrence is estimated. Along with this each IPL (independent protection layer) of a particular risk is analysed to know if it is sufficient to prevent any type of possible hazards. If during analysis it is known that available IPLs for any risk is not sufficient then what are the latest technologies or protection layers that can be added are discussed. It is found that frequency of third party damage in India is very high for which it needs additional protection layers. Independent protection layer present in GGL are discussed elaborately. What are the new technologies are present now days to avoid this kind of damage are also discussed.
