Emphasizing Safety in Industrial Context: Some Case Studies of MCPI Private Limited

Abstract

MCPI PRIVATE LIMITED is the present organization which initially started in the name of MCC PTA India Corporation Private Limited in the year 1999. MCPI PRIVATE LIMITED successfully started commercial operation of first project from April'2000 and second project from March’2010. MCPI comes under Petrochemical Industry which itself is a hazardous industry. Since it is a petrochemical plant, therefore during its operation there are many risks attached to it. These hazards are to be handled for safety in the petrochemical plant. It is essential to identify the hazards and to evaluate the associate risk as any wrong handling operation may leads to severe accident. As the employees work during day as well as night shifts in the risky environment, so the degree of awareness is different for different employees. To ensure safe working, it is very important to look at the individual and his state of mind. It should be strictly recommended that the feature of safety should not be compromised. So the work environment and schedules must be designed similarly. In some cases people in spite of having awareness they do negligence. The gap analysis done to improve the safety culture and recommendation given to achieve the compliance. The main aims of the work is to achieve the company’s target of “zero” accident in MCPI Private Limited, Haldia by performing Risk Assessment of different activities in chemical handling and enhance the working environment by behavioural based safety practices.
