Over the years, contract workforce accounts for a maximum number of safety incidents. Unskilled and untrained workers are carrying out high-risk jobs. Nonavailability of systematic and progressive vendor skill development process. Injuries not only affect companies’ reputation, their employees and contract employees but it also erodes morale, respect, and productivity of the organisation. Direct & Indirect Costs of injuries are excessive and extensive because of Property damage, Poor quality, Reduced worker productivity, Overtime, Temporary workforces etc. Contractor Safety Management is a Tool which is designed to ensure continuous engagement with vendors to raise the level of the safe work environment. As on today, contract manpower is the largest contributors to safety accidents. Evaluation of vendors based on safety adequacy is extended from execution to bid criteria to registration.
CSM is broadly classified under four steps: -
• Vendor safety capability evaluation during registration
• Safety preparedness evaluation during bidding stage
• Managing the works effectively during execution stage
• Vendor safety performance evaluation during and after execution stage With the institutionalisation of Contractor Safety Management System under, Safety Excellence Journey, it is expected that Company Executives, as well as contractor employees, also understand the importance of accountability & compliance to safety rules & procedures.
