Abstract

Hazard identification is one of the crucial and necessary step in performing risk assessment. It is the responsibility of line manager and safety officer to identify all the potential hazard present in their location and report it to their superiors for proper necessary action taken. We have to identify various hazard associated to the activities and access risk associated with it and determining the control measures of significant risks.
To identify the hazard and calculate its potential risk we use some specific tools, one of them is Hazard identification and risk assessment also known as HIRA. It is an effective tool in minimization of risk. Risk minimization is defined as public health interventions intended to prevent or reduce the probability of the occurrence of adverse reactions associated with exposure to a medicinal product, or to reduce their severity/impact on the patient should the adverse reactions occur. To understand the risk minimization, we have to understand the difference between hazard and risk. Hazard is associated with various equipment which we are using in our various activity but we can’t eliminate the hazard associated with it. It’s the nature of the work which demand it. We can only minimize the risk associated with it. If we are using a sharp object for any cutting purpose than there is a hazard associated with the sharp object, that can’t be eliminated but we can minimize the risk by providing any kind of guard around it. The risk is chance or probability that a person will be harmed or experience an adverse health effect if exposed to a hazard. It may also apply to situations with property or equipment loss. Here we are dealing with shearing and trimming of steel plates in double side trimming shear and dividing shear operation and various risk associated with it.
