Abstract
Process industries like JSW steel Mumbai handles a very large quantity of Toxic, Flammable and Hazardous chemical and a very harsh environment like high temperature, high noise, excessive vibration etc. A small miscarriage of chemical or unsafe act or unsafe condition could leads to major accidents or loss of property. To minimize the number of incident inside the process industry our first approach is to identify the hazard followed by finding the possibility of occurrence and consequences. Hazard identification and risk assessment is a method to identify hazard, assess their risk, categorizes the hazard in low, medium and high label and suggest feasible solution. The hazardous activities are priorities for taking appropriate action with the help of HIRA study. Although HIRA study is a legal requirement but the number of incidents are minimized by a reviewing it with advancement in technologies, changing in company policy, updating or modification in machines, changes in premises and with respect to time. Suggestions and recommendation given by experts in HIRA study should be implemented with the help of management and monitor it for continual improvement
