Abstract

In the present project, numerical simulations are carri
ed out for Inertance tube Pulse-Tube-Refrigerator (ITPTR) using pure He and gas mixture of helium and nitrogen (80% He and 20% N2in v/v basis). Pulse Tube Refrigerators are complex systems which require high amount of time and money for performing analysis through experimental study. A two dimensional(2D)axi-symmetric model of ITPTR is designed using the commercial CFD software: FLUENT.Simulation results of single stage ITPTR using helium gas and a mixture of helium and nitrogen gas are presented in this dissertation. The detail study on cooling effect behaviour at cold end of ITPTR, has been performed. Performance of ITPTR, using pure helium is compared with that of ITPTR using mixture of Helium and Nitrogen as working fluid.
