Abstract

Cryogenic turbo-expander is a turbomachinery used in cryogenic plant to attain low temperature cooling. It contains several components such as heat exchanger, compressor, expansion turbine, instrumentation, etc. A Centrifugal compressor is one of the vital component of cryogenicturbo expander used to convert low-pressureg as into high-pressureg as. Hence, it is widely used in the field of preservation of food, oil refineries, and automobile industries.
This Project describes the fluid flow analysis of centrifugal compressor with the help of cfd and its respective application soft wares. This incorporates with the three dimensional investigation of fluid flow through an centrifugal compressor utilizing air as working streaming liquid.. This dissertation is completely based on software work in which analysis is done by using computational fluid dynamics and its applications such as vista ccd, bladegen, turbogrid and cfx. Vista ccd is used to create the one dimensional mean line design of centrifugal compressor. To make the 3D model of centrifugal compressor by utilizing accessible information of cutting edge profile, cover and center point, bladegen is utilized.. For appropriate meshing, turbo-grid is used. Cfx is used for the simulation purpose. This work focuses on designing a centrifugal compressor of cryogrenic turboexpander.
For different mass flow rates, the research is carried out .Two of the designs of compressor were made and compared in order to achieve the performance parameters such as efficiency, pressure ratio, etc. At each mass flow rates, both designs simulation was done and graphs are plotted
